KL-1 Plate meter wanted

I am looking for a plate meter for my KL-1, or recommendation on adapting a meter from an SB-10.I am concerned that the 3KV being applied directly to the meter will lead to its demise, this appears to be what happened to the original.Any thoughts on negative plate lead metering? I don't want to modify the amp too much since it's in nice original
 condition and works very well.
