A friend of mine had been trying to fix an old tube radio receiver
for a few months with a multimeter. I turned it on, noted the total
lack of sound along with the fact that the heaters were working. I
used the screw driver to zap the B+ to ground from the multi section
cap. I found one point with no voltage, fed by a WW resistor from a
point that did have B+. I shorted out the resistor with the pliers
and the radio came to life. Problem solved in 2 minutes.

I have all the toys too, but over the years I learned that it's the
brain that counts.
