What is it?

Hi Joe,

At first blush, itsounds like tobacco residue to me...

I once had a speaker enclosure from an old RCA AR-77 receiver that I was
restoring...the centre metal grill works had a yellowish tinge to it, too.
Imagine my surprise when I dunked the enclosure into warm soapy water &
discovered that the grill was, in fact, chrome finished! A very shiney,
excellent finish, at that...

The previous owner(s) were obviously heavy smokers, & some 60 odd years of
exposure to same altered the looks of the thing...fortunately NOT
permanently!

I'm restoring a SB-102 and lots of the metal work (screw heads, side of LMO,
capacitor frames, metal shafts etc.) have a lemon colored film. It is not
yellow rust and it will not wash with water. It is not WWII anti-fungus!
Anyone ever run across this and if so how did you remove the film. Thanks,
Joe k7mks
