 All the Balun does is configure the UnBalanced
feedline to the (supposedly) balanced antenna, if
its a 1-1 balun. Do you "need it"? Probably not,
but you "may" find the antenna works a bit better
with it. I've notice a bit better bandwidth when using
a balun, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
