input impedance

A 500 ohm microphone is normally considered "medium
impedance". The SB-401 is MUCH happier with a crystal
or ceramic microphone that has its impedance in the
tens of thousands of ohms.

You can use a "medium" impedance microphone if you use
a preamplifier (like the one in some of the D-104
microphone stands).

I have my D-104 set up so that I can go either
directly from the high impedance cartridge or through
the preamplifier. My Heath SB-101, SB-110A, and
SB-401 "prefer" the amplifier. My Heath Apache and
Heath DX-100 can use the microphone either way and
sound pretty much the same. My Hammarlund HX-50A
sounds pretty much the same either way. However, both
of my Collins S-Lines definitely do NOT like the
preamplifier!

But, I also have a high impedance ceramic microphone
that works fine with all of my transmitters when used
directly into the unit.

I'm wondering the best input impedance for my
Sb-401would be? I'm using a 500 ohm mic and I sound
thin. I'm not sure whats the best all the manual says
is high. Also has anyone tried w2ihy EQ on there 401.
