hw101 problems

Hola!

well dug out a winter project that has me stumped.

it's a hw101 with the following problems

everything works just fine in the tune position

when in ssb mode and you key the mic, there's full output and the speaker
produces a tone. (not the side tone)

the carrier balance and null controls have no effect.

tried switching out known good tubes and no joy....

anyone run across this before?

the mic gain control works normally when in tune position...
