Spam and the Tempe lists

Greetings,

There are some people who are starting to use special 'tools' to stop their
spam problems. Unfortunately it's not a good thing when it comes to list
subscribers.

For example, the method some use makes the sender confirm that they are
actually a person and not a spammer thus putting the burden of managing
their spam problem on others. This is a problem when someone posts to the
list and then get messages they have to confirm from individuals using this
spam filtering method.

The list policy will be to remove anyone using this form of spam control as
it is not conducive to smooth list traffic and causes administrators to do
additional work. If anyone gets these messages please let Paul or I know so
they can be removed.

If you feel this is the only way you can manage spam then please stay off
the list and use the archives to monitor activity as long as they are
available.

----

On another note, we are going to be moving to a newer version of the list
server software in 30-60 days. At that time we will determine if the
archive feature is safe enough to continue using. Because it is web based
and the sleazy spammers out there tend to scan and grab email addresses off
of web pages, we will see if the newer version encrypts or has an option to
remove email from archive listings. If not, we will be turning off
archives. We'll let you know. In the event that we do shut them down we
would probably place the whole history in a downloadable zip file for those
who use it for research or place the archives in a passworded web site that
you all could access. No fees of course.

73 and remember....if you are going to use the Internet learn how it all
works. Here's a link that might help some understand the risks
