I would check the high value resistors around the FOCUS and
INTENSITY controls. They have probably drifted off such that
you can't get the right focussing voltage. Don't try to
measure that voltage with your DVM. It will load it down the
circuit too much and the voltage there will probably blow
the input of your DVM (lessons learned).

BTW -- there is a perfectly useably SB-610 schematic on
BAMA.

can't get the
trace smaller than 3/16s of an inch high so can't get a nice
sharp display
any suggesstions on a fix?
