Heathkit cult

Well, I know that we are a litigous society, for sure. Also overly
regulative. Many of the toys I grew up with are no longer avaiable --
lead soldiers (might drink the molten lead), chemistry sets (might drink
the acid), model airplanes (might sniff the glue), Erector sets (might
swallow the nuts and bolts), model steam engines (might burn one's
fingers), etc. etc.

But golly gee, have we really progressed as a nation so far, that
grownups can no longer be trusted with high voltage? Are we constrained
to solid state and IC gear that has no high voltage at all?

What if we decide to flavor our breakfast cereal with surface-mount
resistors? Who's going to protect us from _THAT_?

FWIW, and to show that I'm no smarter than those other idiots, back when
I was a little kid -- 4 or 5 -- I once chewed up a flashlight bulb. It
felt so snooth and round in my mouth, like a cherry, I just couldn't
resist biting down on it. I _KNEW_ it was made of glass. I knew it
would leave broken glass in my mouth. But I did it anyway.

Once. I only needed to do it once, to convince myself that once was enough.
