DX-40 & VF-1

You can get the manual for the VF-1 and DX-40 from
BAMA ( http://bama.sbc.edu ).  If you have problems
downloading the manual go to the mirror site that is
listed on the home page.

The VF-1 is supposed to work powered by the DX-40. 
However, they really work better if you run the VF-1
from a separate power supply.  If you use the VF-1 for
CW make sure and let the VFO run constantly.  That is,
don't try and key it.  It will chirp to high heaven! 
But, if you let it run constantly when transmitting
they usually work fairly well.

I have owned several and still own one early version
and one late version.  Electrically they are
identical.  It is just that there are cosmetic
differences in how the front panels are made.
