Heathkit VF-1 VFO

The original color on the Heath VF-1 cabinet is not
brown but is the medium gray that was used on a number
of the Heath transmitters.

The early model VF-1 units (the ones with the 3 bands
around the edge of the front panel) had a slightly
brownish "tinge" (well, more of a very light bronze)
to the panel.  However, the cabinet color was
definitely the same gray as on the DX-20, DX-35,
DX-40, etc.
