Technically, even RG-58A/U is rated for full output (1 kW) of the
amplifier - in the matched condition. RG-8X is certainly capable of
handling a full gallon -- in the matched condition, and then some.

If you are working the amplifier into something other than a 50 ohm
load, particularly load with considerable reactance, you might run into
trouble with arcing with RG-8X. You're better off then to use a cable
with a solid dielectric - RG-58U (if you can find some), RG-8/U,
RG-213. Since RG-8 is larger, it has a higher breakdown voltage.
