SB-1400 MODE

Seeing how this is as I recall a Yaesu product and I seem to recall a
modification of a Yaesu xcvr (FT-747 or something like that) requiring some
hokey-pokey dance like this - I think the chances of this working are very
high.

I recall receiving the first shipment of FT-23 handhelds in and them
transmitting on all frequencies. The FCC came into the store I worked at in
Burlingame, CA. and checked them out - the "inspector" dialed up 162.55 and
pushed the PTT - of course it transmitted. We were told to quit selling them
(big surprise)... I think after that, Yaesu was under a lot of pressure to
make their rigs a little bit harder to modify - remember the warning in the
FT-101 manual to not cut the green (I think that was the color) wire? There
was still an 11 meter position on the bandswitch as in some parts of the
world 11 m was STILL a ham band when that rig was first produced.

Remove top cover.

On backside of display unit there is a brown jumper wire near the large
ribbon cable.

Cut this jumper.

Turn radio on and set display for 12.345.6 then turn radio off then on.

This enables the general coverage mode and a GEN display will come on and
stay on at the top of the LCD display.

Reassemble the unit. It will now transmit everywhere it receives, however
Heathkit recommends that it only transmit from 1.8 - 30 MHz.
