AR-1500 Receiver w/poor illumination

Did the decrease in illumination happen suddenly, or slowly over time?
Did it happen after you moved the receiver to a new location?
Did you measure the voltage going to the bulbs?  Is it still 6.1 volts?

My AR-1500 receiver does not have illumination 

coming through the dial panel.


I cleaned the dial glass, inside and out. Also cleaned the "white 

plastic panel" (diffuser) on the inside of the dial glass (but showed 

no signs of being dirty).

The 'diffuser' is more opaque, and not translucent, as I would expect.

 

Does anyone know if I could clean this diffuser better (maybe the heat 

from the dial lamps degraded it)??

 

The dial lamps are new #44, with 6.1 Volts supply.

 

Any help would be appreciated.
