The manual is free to download from BAMA.  The best
thing is to go to the mirror site
http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/heath/ and then choose
TX-1 (the Heath number on the Apache).
Also, tighten EVERY machine screw, sheet metal screw,
nut, etc., that goes through the chassis.  All of the
grounds in the transmitter are made through these. 
Over the years they tend to work loose and/or build up
corrosion.  Retightening them makes the grounds work
again.
