Ameco sold two versions (at least) of the VFO-621.
The earlier version, which I believe wasn't available
for very long, actually was a heterodyne type that
mixed the 5.1 MHz variable osc with a crystal HFO at
19.9 MHz giving you an output of 25 MHz. The HFO
transistor and crystal are mounted below the chassis
with the components for the VFO. If you see a crystal
and two transistors in the compartment you have the
earlier model.
The later version ran at 12.5 MHz and doubles to 25
MHz. I actually have three of these and have verified
with a counter that they all output 25 MHz.
As long as the output of the first osc / multiplier
stage in the transmitter is 25 MHz the VFO (either
model) will work. (One side of the crystal socket must
go to ground so some rigs will require modification of
the osc circuit).
Is there a possibility the someone modified yours for
HF use?
