The Heathkit concept is alive in Thailand, per their Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Improving Thai students' access to information technology, especially computers and the Internet, was key to "the foundation of our future society and economy," he said.
The Thai government aims to provide 250,000 computers to schools across the country by June 2006 in the form of ready-to-assemble desk-top kits that would be put together by students themselves as a cost-saving measure, which would also provide pupils with a knowledge of the inner workings of the machines.
