Try a 1N4753. It's a 1W 36V zener. It looks like a 1W part on mine so this
one ought to work. It's available from Mouser for 10 cents (plus about $6
shipping, so you may wanna buy some other stuff!)

Subject: [HEATH-TEMPE] HW- 8, no output

Hi,

I just recently got a HW-8 to restore at a hamfest. It has zero output. It
appears to have been well built, but appears high voltages have been on the
board. The zener diode was cracked and it has the 4 watt mod for the final
using a NTE 488.  I have yet to find a source for a 36v zener diode (VR-36 &
Heath part #56-55). I will also be replacing the final transistor. Anyone
on the list know of a source for this zener diode or a suitable replacement?

Thanks & 73,

Tom KG4KGY
