Heathkit Spares and Manuals (from Cedar Electronics)

Interesting. So what happened to Classic Heathkit (www.classicheathkit.com) who
also claimed to have purchased the entire stock of Cedar Electronics and has
been selling it off piecemeal on eBay and on their website?
There is certainly a market for Heathkit spares and manuals (just search eBay
for Heathkit). Non-working rigs go for almost the price of working units,
presumably to cannibalize the parts. Whether or not someone could make a
living (or just break even) from selling off parts in ones and twos is another
matter.
This would seem to be an outstanding project for retired or semi-retired persons
who would like to make a contribution to the Heath community and still generate
some income. Since it will take many tears to dispose of this treasure trove,
a longer-lived entity such as a foundation or corporation (Heath Company
listening?) might be a better option.
This is indeed a priceless resource that may just be frittered away. Classic
Heathkit tried selling parts in lots by dumping drawer contents in the middle
of a table, taking a picture, giving a rough estimate of part numbers, and
offering them on eBay. I suspect the selling prices discouraged this approach.
Sadly, to obtain a needed part, one had to purchase a pile of unneeded parts,
which went back into a drawer, probably never to be seen again.
I wish you luck, Mr. Hagger. You have been entrusted with something very
special to the hearts of many, many people.
