HW-16 Audio

Dave,

I don't have a HW-16 but in reference to your problem. Try another 6HF8 tube if you can find one. Check the capacitors in the audio circuit especially plate blocking  caps. Check for resistors that may have changed values.

Remove the 6HF8 and check the audio line that goes to the speaker for a short or ground.  (without speaker attached.)
