Hello Glen and Gregory and all others who replied,

thanks for your messages. 
I know that there are better linears. I just want to keep it working from
the collector's standpoint but having to pay Richardson Electronics $801
for a replacement tube is much more than I am willing to invest. The SB-230
will probably end up as a show piece only.

My mechanical skills are limited and although converting the SB-230 to a
forced air cooled tube will certainly work, it wouldn't look good enough to
please me. 
I have no idea how many SB-230 are out there and how many are dead because
of tube failure. Maybe this is a market for somebody with good mechanical
skills and a well equipped shop to produce and sell conversion kits.
