GR-2000 TV Audio problem

Good day fellow Heath devotees:
I'm about to delve into my 1979 vintage GR-2000 color TV to fix the
currently non-existent audio output.
Does anyone know of any 'common' failure mechanisms for the audio?
(Nope, the "mute" switch on the tone control is NOT activated). Speakers
check out OK.
The demod is 442-62 / MC1358, followed by a chassis mount NPN 417-238 /
40648 (RCA).
Secondarily, I'm also going to be trying to get the ultrasonic remote
control to work again.
It seemed to fail softly in the late 1980's. A letter I have from Heath
tech support around that time
says that sometimes the microphone (which appears to be an electret instead
of a true ultrasonic
transducer) lost sensitivity. I suppose the inductors could have aged as
well and drifted off freq.
The set worked fine for many years. I'd like to get it going again. Help
would be appreciated.
