Help TX-1 semi-frozen band and mode switches

Does any one know the trick to free up extremely hard to turn band   and mode 
switches???? 
You have to be Mr. Atlas to turn the knobs on the front panel. The switches  
are not totally frozen and will switch back and forth if I place a small  
ignition wrench in the middle of  the switch shaft and turn each switch by  hand
