More than likely the problem is an intermittent contact either at the LMO
(VFO) variable capacitor shaft bearings or the variable capacitor tension
spring, or both. Clean the LMO (VFO) front bearings with DeoXit and rotate
the tuning knob throughout its travel. This should clear up the problem.
This is a common problem with older LMO's (VFO). Dirty and/or corrosion
builds up and causing intermittent contact in the LMO variable capacitor
with the capacitor shaft. The variable shaft must make contact with ground,
the capacitor's frame. Any intermittent contact at this point will cause,
providing nothing else is wrong, LMO (VFO) instability when turing the main
tuning knob.
