Stripping and painting cabinet

Hi fellow Heath travelers:
                                            First time on the reflector as a 
"newbie" for me. I "inherited" a Heath Apache TX 1 transmitter about 10 
years ago and its been sitting in my garage ever since. Recently connected 
it to a Variac and plugged it in. Brought it up to household voltage over a 
period of an hour. No smoke or loud noises. Hooked a dummy load to it and 
tuned it up. Worked great. Put out over a 100 watts. The radio appears to 
work fine. The problem is, the paint on the cabinet has seen considerably 
better days. Any recommendations on "how" to remove the paint, and is there 
a brand/color of paint available that can be used to repaint the cabinet
