Hi Dana,
Been there done that. Have an Apache/Mowhak and soon an HA-10. Sand
with wet paper and use a rotary wire brush on the rust or have it bead
blasted. A coat of Ospho will stop rust.
Automotive gray primer is good to use. Sand with wet 400 grit. Go to
Benjamin Moore and have a quart of oil base high gloss mixed. Use a
good sample of Heathkit green.
You can easily remove the dark green raised part of the Apache panel. I
use my spray gun and bake in the oven at lowest setting or you could
have it done at a body shop.
Getting it professionally power coated it the neat way to go but you
still got to have a good sample of Heathkit green. Luck and 73.
