Heath potted transformers Methylene Chloride

I should think it would be OK if the wire in the transformer were
insulated with 'Heavy Armoured Polythermaleze.'

With that type of wire, you must scrape off the 'enamel' to solder it --
it's tough; not easy!  You can't just melt it off with the soldering
iron and your solder.

The easy, 'no scrape,' wire might not be so good.

I don't really know for sure though.

I suppose if he's rewinding it anyway, it won't matter, but will that
stuff 
take some types of magnet wire insulation off? Hard to predict what a
given 
mfr used (Formvar vs polyurethane nylon for example...maybe age would
narrow 
down possibilities).

Only time I used this stuff was to unpot a circuit board from a solid
clear 
brick. I left it in too long and it took the paint off the carbon film 
resistors!
