When all is said and done, I guess I would op for leaving the HW-100 alone and just adding a linear amplifier. That should give you a couple of 100 watts of AM. No fuss, no modifications - just results.

I cannot contemplate a project of that magnitude right now.

I own the HW-100 and the outboard modulator.

I'd like my mods to the HW-100 to be reversable (other than
merely beefed-up components) so will look at relays to select
between AB and C Class and other mode-relevant changes.

100W of high-level plate modulation is an important project
parameter - I remain unpersuaded that 25 or even 100W of
less-than-high-level AM will cut it on noisy bands and across
long distances except when propagation is excellent and my
antennas are optimized.
