HW:16 Chassis

I got it cleaned up now and actually a better description of the color would
be copper. Apparently Heathkit produced some with a copper plated chassis.
It is identical to another HW-16 I have except for the copper plating.

Hi Tom,
That HW-16 chassis was copper-plated to improve grounding and prevent
rusting as some steel chassis did in high-moisture environments. It was
used on only a few models for the same purpose.

Sounds like the aluminum chassis had been anodized by a previous owner,
maybe just prior to assembly.
I've never heard of Heath doing this at the factor, but who knows?
