Re: Painting aluminum and galvanized steel. In the sheet metal shops when we
out of the "proper" pre-treatment we used vinegar on galvanized sheets. If
anyone has been to Mexico there is a bar soap named Don Maximo. It is big on
phosphates and will about disolve aluminum if left too long in a water
soloution. If the part is small, immerse it for a few minutes and
immediately flood with water. I submerge old variable caps for a few minutes
and then wash the black film off in warm water. They come out like new
anodized parts. The word is don't wait too long to do the wash off
or your part may be missing! W7PRV

i use veri-prime from the auto paint supplier. dont know if it comes in a
spray can. have also seen zinc chromate at the farm supply stores.
