SB-200 tubes.

Hi Ken,

I recently refurbished my SB-200................It's like new now and
will last for another 40+ years (longer than I will).

Some suggestions: For tubes, contact Frank, K5SVC. E-mail address
is: K5SVC at Natchez.net

I've purchased tubes from him for my Collins and most recently a pair
of 572B's for the SB-200. He has been very reliable and I would try
him before anyone else. BTW, replace your 572B's with, ..............
572B's.

If your SB-200 is original and has no mods.............consider
upgrading the rig with a new power supply board and a soft-start relay
module from Harbach Electronics. Contact Jeff, W8CQ, at:
info at harbachelectronics.com Again, a reliable source with excellent
parts. Your SB-200 will emerge better than new.

And one other thought. If you subscribe to Electric Radio, check out
the article in the April 2007 issue (#215) on aligning the input coils.
Many of us have already done this, but WD8DWR took the time to write
it down for all to benefit from and Ray published it for all to see.

Those of us who own SB-200's already know it's a great amplifier and
that it can be improved with little effort. The Harbach mods are
excellent.

I don't have financial interests in the above mentioned
parties.............but I've done business with them and they are tops
in my book. I'm just an OT ham who loves boatanchors.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [HEATH-TEMPE] SB-200 tubes.

Which tubes would you recommend to replace the two 572Bs in
my SB-200?

AES has them at $169.00 each, but a pair of those would cost
more than the amp.

I haven't been able to find out whether or not Cetron is still in
business.

The Svetlana versions appear to have rather small plates and
higher mu, so may not work correctly in the SB-200

The Chinese tubes are certainly inexpensive, but I have not been
able to find out anything about their reliability, etc.

Suggestions?
