Zero beat

I'll answer that since I started it. I was just using it as a
representation of the tone from the crystal calibrator moving up or down in
frequency. I have a 1961 ARRL Handbook that had a pictorial of zero beat
and it showed point A as a high tone, down through zero beat as point B
(bottom of V pattern) then back up to point C. It actually looked more like
this: \/

Ok guys, I am going to show my ignorance here. I understand the theory

of which you speak but the "V" thingy is leaving me blank. Exactly

what is this representation?
