Try your local hobby shop - the kind that caters to model railroad and
airplane folks.
If that fails, Small Parts, Inc. will have it:

They have threaded and moly lubricted (but not smooth) nylon. Also Delrin
and phenolic linen filled, all generally less than $2 a foot. Polyimide is
$22 an inch.
I suggest an email to them asking for smooth nylon rod.
MSC has black nylon rod for $0.57 for a foot long length:
