DX-100B Problems Continued

Interestingly enuf............the DX-100 VFO is a VF-1. Just in
different clothing. I would guess that another external vfo would work
provided it produces the range of frequencies needed to emulate a VF-1
or the existing internal one.
If I'm not too far off base, the VF-1 is pretty much the same design as
the EF Johnson 122. I've owned a couple of them and I seem to recall
that the 122 had a quirk whereby it actually used the design of the
oscillator in the Viking II transmitter as part of it's output scheme.
At least one one or two bands. I'm thinking maybe the 160m band.
Something tells me the DX-100 and the VF-1 have a similar relationship.
It's been a long time back and I cannot remember any of the
particulars. And my EFJ 122 and Viking II are doing duty at some other
qth these days. Fortunately, my DX-100 is playing like a champ with
the internal (vf-1) lashup.
