CW filter weirdness

 In the absence of any crystal filter, the IF strip
> simply runs "wide open" --- you'll hear dozens of stations all at the same

That certain comes closer to describing what I am hearing instead of what I
should be hearing. I have looked at that site and am wondering just what
fiddling with the wacko filter I have could hurt? It is obviously already
screwed up, wonder if it would cascade failures down stream?
