GM Martin.................

DX-100 stuff............

The main tuning cap in the VFO should be fully meshed and the dial
should have the hash mark (calibration mark) aligned with the center of
the graticule. (the green piece of plastic with the slit in it)

A DX-100 without the "fine" loading control is either: A) A DX-100B
or B) A DX-100 that has had the modification made to remove the
"fixed" loading caps and control which were replaced with a single,
3-gang, loading cap. The original DX-100 would load a wider range of
impedances than either the DX-100B or the DX-100 with modification.
The latter two prefer seeing 50 ohms (+/-). HEATH provided the mod kit
for DX-100 owners if they chose.

Several differences between the 100 and 100B. Most noticeable is the
above referenced loading control change. The 100-B also had a means of
neutralization. The DX-100 often needed neutralization and a "mod" to
extend a wire into the PA cage from the driver tuning cap is often
found in a previously owned rig. The 100B cabinet is lighter in weight
and has a trap door at the top to facilitate tube and crystal changes.
The chassis on the 100 is copper plated. There are some circuit
changes, but those are best described by looking at the individual
schematics.

There may be more, but these are the key items.
Hope this is helpful.

They are great transmitters and a real workhorse. Mine hums along at
115w carrier and 90-95% modulation on negative peaks. I completely
restored it and get good reports with a stock D-104 (non-amplified).
