VHF AM - Is there a "National AM Simplex Frequency on 2 Meters?

Many amateur radio operators don't realize that there
is a good chance that an FM station running a good
commercial radio won't know if he/she is actually on
top of the AM station unless VERY close physically.
The forget (or didn't know) that the limiter circuits
that are in the good FM receivers are designed to
eliminate any AM component on the signal.

Also, remember that the AM station can only run 375
watts of carrier output because present FCC
regulations limit maximum output power to 1500 watts
peak and an AM carrier that is modulated to 100% has a
peak output power of 1500 watts.

Good points Bry ... though I still think that low
power AM Nets may need a 1.5KW "guardian angel" to
keep the frequency clear of careless intruders during
the Net.

It is real easy on 2M to not hear any of the low power
ops if you happen to be outside their area, and
especially if they are using beams.

This is especially true if one is running a 100W
FM-only piece of commercial surplus gear mobile,
probably never know the AMers are there unless on top
of them!
