W5M Power Xfrmr Question

Back in the mid 60s a friend of mine had a W5M that quit on him.  It turned 
out to be a bad power transformer. and nothing else. I don't know if  this is 
typical for the W5M or not. I don't remember the transformer getting hot  under 
normal conditions.
