Guys,
Many thanks to all of you who have responded to this issue, really appreciated!
And dear Emil WD4SCZ, yes if you could magically find this schema somewhere in your archives and send it to me (kenth at totoket.com) that would be greatly appreciated.
As for your question Ed, K1ZOK, yes this is all very puzzling to me - the original R7 is from what I can see part of the chain of bleeder resistors for the caps....the "new" R7 in the Harbach I can't really figure out what it does....
Other than that it is vital for supplying HV to the tube anodes in some way....
The reason for the arching was that I had switched out the 572B for new ones, and not being careful enough when tuning up for test, one of the tank circuits came to close to the RF cage.....now THAT was a spark....
Apart from disabling the Harbach PS (R7) it also took out several resistors (R17 / R16? I don't have the schematics in front of me right now) and a diode in the ALC circuit too, which also doesn't make sense to me.
Anyways, many thanks for all your input - I'll keep digging.

Are you absolutely sure the problem you had with arcing caused the
charring of R7?
The original resistor is rated at 7 watts.... this one is only 2.
