Of course, the problem MAY be related to a resistor drastically changing
 value as it heats up...

Check the couple between the mic and V1 and while on the high still within
20% of marked value.

Now on the higher bands, there is plenty of mic gain. To keep it at the same
210 ma level (and the ALC within marks) you have to back off a bit more than
a quarter turn  (about 10:30) on 10 meters

There are clues here, I am just not seeing where they go.........
