HR-1680 Questions

Hello Group,

I have picked up a HR-1680 receiver and looking for some input, before I start doing any adjustments.

The radio looks in good condition, was a little dirty inside so I have dusted off the boards and innards.  I have used Deoxit on the board pins, and have pushed in the female pins alittle on the spring portion.  Reception and volume is very good on 80 and 40 Mtr.

On 20, 15, and 10 using my BTV antenna the reception was not as strong as it was on the lower bands

The RF gain seems to only give control from the 3 to 6 clock position.  From the position of 2 till 8 result in no reception.

I have ordered the proper size hex tool to adjust the coils, and will get it this weekend.  Looks as if the builder has melted candle wax into the adjustible coils.  I have removed most of it with a old hair drier so there is access.

The Audio board had a cap soldered on the back of the board, and not on the front where it belongs.  It has been replaced with the proper size, and in the proper side of the board.

Would it be better to start from the beginning in the adjustments, or just adjust the bands that are not to the point of the others, since 2 are working fine?

Is the function of the RF gain about what could be expected from all the HR-1680's, or could this be to being not in the best adjustment?

I am also looking for a matching speaker for the radio if someone has an extra one at a reasonable price, so far my luck on ebay has not been sucessfull with them often selling more than I paid for the radio.

Thanks

WS4JH James
