Back in the dawn of time in college, we looked at some micrographs of properly crimpe/swaged connections, and the pressure was so high that the mating surfaces of the connector and the wire are actually fused, i.e. pressure-welded, i.e. oxidation-proof connection. High pressure is presumably required, and just squishing it together so the wire touches the connector is obviously not even close to being adequate.
