Subject: SB-650 counter job

Hello Heathkit folk!
Say, what do you think about this...
I have an SB650, and it works. But after an indeterminate amount of time the
display goes bonkers. Tap it on the side, and all is well.....for 5 minutes
to an hour???
Anyway, I tried cleaning all the IC pins, did not help. Perhaps I missed
one, or perhaps the problem is the soldering of one of the sockets.
I was thinking of replacing all the sockets with new gold plated jobs. But
then I was thinking.... This thing may be MORE reliable if I just solder in
all the chips and forget the sockets. Stuff today does not use sockets. I am
not sure there is any reason for them.
What do you think???
...Dave
