VL-1180 Amplifier 2 meter 75 out/10 in mobile version sold from 81-83

Sounds like it probably uses the old Motorola MRF245 transistor. For 2
meters, rated at 10 watts input, 75 watts output. Probably takes about 20
to 25 amps at 12 volts in your car. I've no other info; but the hi/low
switch probably simply bypasses the amp on low power position. The SSB/FM
position make it operate in linear class B for SSB/CW or nonlinear class C
for FM/CW. Will probably need a few watts more drive power in the FM
position than in the SSB position, but may put out another 5 to 10 watts,
too. DON'T DARE use it on SSB in the FM position!

And BTW, Bill, please DON'T use html when you're doing e-mail; html really
messes up reflectors something fierce. In fact, the qth.net reflectors are
set to REJECT any e-mail using html.
