In the past I’ve heard that the only difference is the A version has a flat face. Here is a link to a page from and RCA manual for those tube types.

Subject: [Heath] 3RP1/3RP1A tube question

Hello everyone,

The question: will a 3RP1A replace a 3RP1 in a HO10 monitor scope? The "A" version has 2 less pins than the standard 3RP1. Meanwhile, they are being advertised "bayside" as being interchangeable. It appears that the 3RP1A will plug into the tube socket just fine, but there are wires attached to the sockets where the pins on the "A" version are missing. Thought I'd ask before I smoke it. Thanks is advance for sharing your greater knowledge and experience. 73
