Hi Ken
 
I looked at the IP27 schematic today and noted that it did not have a  
reverse protection diode across the regulator circuit in case the output held up 
 longer than the unregulated input supply e.g. connected to a very large  
electrolytic or a battery which would cause the regulator to be reverse 
biassed.  Most modern supplies have this type of protection. Simple to add.
