That is one thing that I found about the data type of people, they don't understand how balun is really pronounced. In fact, I find that a lot of those people don't even understand what the real purpose of the device actually is!
Until I retired, I was an active BICSI RCDD (registered communications distribution designer) and worked with a lot of data system installers. Most of them were not aware that balun comes from balanced - unbalanced and how the word really needs to be pronounced.

Back in the 90's I was working in IT for Fifth Third Bank. Our data terminals had BNC network connectors and the buildings were all wired with Cat5 cable so a balun was required. Everyone (except me) called them a BAY-LUN.
