Hi Sandy

The PA loading and IF filter control knobs can be repaired if you have the
patience. There are two ways to achieve this:

1) Replace the broken section completely with a very thin brass spacer and
use a countersunk fixing bolt in the centre of the spacer with the threaded
end araldited into the body of the knob. I used a 10BA bolt which are
available from model suppliers and a sub miniature switch spacer - if you have
access to a small lathe you could turn up something in brass. Araldite is a
two pack epoxy resin cement in the UK. This is the strongest solution and
I have yet to have one break.

2) Drill a clearance hole through the broken part into the main body of the
knob in which a cut down dressmaking pin is Araldited into place. This
keeps the original appearance of the knob but it not as strong as in 1) above.
You may need to roughen the outer surface of the pin with a miniature file
to aid adhesion.

There are photos of my repairs in
http://www.qsl.net/g3oou/heathsparesandrepairs.html but the text is "between versions" at the moment and needs some
corrections. However it should be clear enough.
