[Heath] [Heathkit] Cables

Hi Rod,
I was not in a 'dither' about it at all, actually.
I am currently using exactly what was recommended. Two 24 inch lengths of
RG-62/U for the HET, and BFO interconnect between the '303 and '401, and
one length of RG-174/U for the LMO interconnection. And yes, some RG-58 for
the antenna interconnection.
I think people may have confused my simple curiosity about the reason Heath
chose to do it that way with some sort of desire to 'not use' what was
recommended. Not so at all.
I am a low noise designer of hi-rel equipment (non-consumer/ non-commercial)
and an R&D analyst. So please bear with me -- if I ask questions it's out
of interest (both technical and historical) and a desire to understand the
'whys' and the contexts of the design decisions of the day.
Glenn gave an excellent answer.
Thanks, Rod.
Cheers,
--- Rob, VE3JQL

If everyone is in a 'dither' about what is needed on the cables, why not
just use what the manfacturer/engineers recommended. No need to worry about
stray, distributed capacitance, impedence 'twist', db of loss or what ever
some high priced test equipment can show you. Use what is in the manual and
should work.
I have: RG-62A/U, Belden 9269 and RG-174/U, Belden 8216 and the RCA plugs
(with long male oontact). Package of 5ft of RG-62A, 3ft of RG-174 and 6
Plugs. I do not build them up...$5.75, plus postage to you. (limited
supply)
