[Heath] SB-104A rx noise problem

Hello, folks!

I love my SB-104A, great dependable rig. I have made many of the board mods
recommended by Kees, K5BCQ and they've helped a lot. My rig is an SB-104
upgraded with the 'A' kit before I acquired it a few years ago.

However, one thing still annoys me: on any band that's fairly busy (40M
daytime for a typical example), there's a hash noise that runs underneath
everything, a baseline noise. And, also, often I get an audio and S-Meter
pumping which sounds just like a real wide station 5kHz away; this pumping
is there across the band almost as if there's some strong-signal front-end
overload.

By immediate comparison, I have my old Hallicrafters SR-400A rig. Has a
really quiet receiver noise floor. The noise in the Heath isn't there when
I switch to the Halli.

There must be some mod I have missed somewhere for the RX/Front End board
to help quiet this down. Does anyone on the List have any recommendations
for me? I'd surely appreciate some help with this.

73,
